Emperor Moth ( Saturnia pavonia) - larva

After seeing my first Emperor adults earlier in the year, I found a beautiful caterpillar of the same species for the first time too yesterday. It looks possible that this particular larva will not make it to adulthood, as it appears to have eggs of a parasitic insect (tachinid fly) laid on it. These will eventually hatch and the fly larva will burrow into the caterpillar and feed.
