Loseley Park & Surrey Advertiser Natural Photography Competition 2014
Anyone who has seen my photographs on Flickr and through social media will be aware of my love of the gardens at Loseley Park, near Godalming in Surrey. The beautifully designed and planted Walled Gardens are always a fantastic source of photographic inspiration, and are always buzzing with my favourite subjects, insects! We discovered it a few years ago, and are regular visitors.
I decided to chance my arm and enter three of my photographs from this year into their Natural Photography competition for 2014. It wasn't an easy task as I had spent a lot of time there this summer and had a lot of images, but I chose these three as my personal favourites.
All the entrants were invited to show off their entries at the awards night on Thursday evening, in the beautiful Tithe Barn at Loseley Park. There were some outstanding photographs on display, and although I wasn't expecting anything in the way of awards, it's always very gratifying to see your work printed rather than just on a computer screen. The temptation to hang around my shots and eavesdrop as people passed by was hard to resist!
All of my images were shortlisted in their category, but I was very lucky that not only did my photo of a Syritta pipiens hoverfly win the Wildlife category of the competition but was also selected as the Overall winner for the competition.
A huge surprise when my name was read out for the first award, and even more so when it was read out for the second time!! Very flattering, and a huge deal for me to get my first win in a photographic competition, and also very cool for a macro image to win a competition that wasn't specifically macro based.
A huge thank you to the More-Molyneux family for the award and for opening their home and gardens to the public. I highly recommend a visit when they open again in the Spring, it's a magical place.
And one with impeccable taste too....
